Three WAP’s (wireless access points) for internet connectivity have been placed in the heart of the Grosvenor Park Townhouse Condominium development on Englishman Place. Currently, one of these units is running with WEP 128 security and the other two are unsecured. Anyone on Englishman Place and Englishman Court should be able to connect to the internet for free at this time provided their wireless network detection indicates a “better than weak” signal. In some instances, it may require that prospective users place their computers with wireless accessibility close to a window in the direction of Englishman Place to adequately receive the carrier signal. Telnetwifi has begun shipping test models of wireless access points from WSG, Colubris, Proxim, ParkerVision, D-Link, and Linksys to WIISP.net for evaluation and network testing. These products will be deployed in our research program to establish best practices for wireless networks in high-rise condo/apartment buildings and high density condominium developments. Coverage and Quality of Service issues are being examined to insure that recommendations and deployments are cost-effective for communities and homeowner associations interested in private network systems.
